Master of Surgery (M.S.) is a postgraduate Academic programme. Surgery is a branch of medical science that treats diseases or injury by operative procedures. The duration of Masters in Surgery Course is 3 years, imparted in 6 Semesters, including the period of examination. If a student has completed a recognised Two Year Postgraduate Diploma Course in the same subject, the period of training, including the period of examination, shall be 2 years. The candidates must pass the Examinations within 5 Years of the date of his/her admission.
  • M.S. can be pursued by those candidates who have completed M.B.B.S. course from a medical college recognised by Medical Council of India (MCI).
  • The candidate should have obtained full registration either from MCI or any of the state council after passing final MBBS examination and should have completed one year Internship.
  • The candidate must have scored at least 50% marks in the Examination.

Admission Process:
  • Admission is strictly done on the basis of their academic merit. The minimum percentage of marks for eligibility for admission to course is 50% for General Category Candidates. It is 40% for the candidate belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward classes.

Syllabus of Master of Surgery:

Basic Medical Sciences - Lectures, Seminars, Journal Clubs, Group Discussions, Participation in laboratory and experimental work, and involvement in research studies in the concerned speciality and exposure to the applied aspects of the subject relevant to clinical specialities.


Clinical Disciplines - In service training, with the students being given graded responsibility in the management and treatment of patients entrusted to their care; participation in Seminars, Journal clubs, Group Discussions, Clinical Meetings, Grand rounds, and Clinico - Pathological Conferences; practical training in Diagnosis and medical and Surgical treatment; training in the Basic Medical Sciences, as well as in allied clinical specialities.
